Categories: Articles, New Homes Moyock | Posted: October 10, 2018

The Countryside Estates property may appear to be a typical piece of pastural and scenic Moyock, NC land, but it actually has an interesting story behind it.

In the early 1900s, greyhound racing was a local form of entertainment in Norfolk County, until the 1930s when Virginia officials shut down the Cavalier Kennel Club. The CKC moved their operations to a location a quarter mile south of the VA/NC border, to none other than the Countryside Estates property.

8 Tips to Get Your Entire Home Ready for Colder Months

Fall is officially here and aside from visiting the pumpkin patch and sipping on hot cider, you should also start preparing your home for the winter months. To help you get started, we’ve put together a few tips that will get you in gear for a full cleanup, both inside and outside your house.

Get Started with the Outdoors

Fertilize Your Lawn

Don’t let all the hard work on your lawn go to waste. According to experts, fertilizing your lawn in the fall helps to protect it during the winter. Mindful preparation can also help it get greener, faster in the spring. Fertilization is especially important in areas with hot and dry summers since grass tends to stop growing under extreme temps.

Plant Bulbs Now for Beauty in the Spring

Another way to ensure that your landscaping looks fresh come springtime is by planting bulbs in October. Once the soil has cooled down, this creates the perfect environment for roots to start developing and gorgeous flowers to bloom around April and May.

If you need advice on how to plant bulbs in the fall, check out this article from the Farmer’s Almanac.

What is a Flex Room?

Categories: Articles | Posted: May 1, 2018

What is a Flex Room?

A flex room is essentially an area in your house that can be customized and used for a number of different functions. At Napolitano Homes, we typically refer to these multi-purpose rooms as “Flex Spaces.” Flex spaces can be entire rooms or an area in your home that can be utilized in different ways throughout your time and life there. We build these flex spaces into our floorplans so that homeowners can customize their living space to better fit their different interests, lifestyles and evolving life stages. From extended patios to second master suites and game rooms to reading nooks, incorporating a flex space into the layout of your new home will allow you to further customize your Napolitano Home to fit your family’s needs and interests.
5 Examples of Flex Space Rooms
One of the many benefits of having a flex space or flex room is that you can update and transform the space to fit your stage of life and lifestyle. Here are some ways that Napolitano homeowners can use their flex rooms.

1. A Hobby Room

You can finally have a space dedicated purely to your passion. Whether you are an artist, a fitness enthusiast, or a collector, flex rooms provide a special area in your home that is soley dedicated to your favorite hobby.

2. An Office or Study Area

Let’s face it, no one truly leaves all of their work at the office. By turning a flex space into a home office or library, you will have a place where you can focus when you need to work late to meet a deadline, or decide to work from home for the day. When you are not using it, the kids can use the space as a study area!

3. An Entertainment Room

Turn your flex room into a space dedicated to having fun! Make your home the perfect place for entertaining by creating your own billiards room, or a private movie theater. By having a separate entertainment space, you won’t have to worry about disturbing the rest of the family when you break during a game of pool, or when you want to watch an action movie late at night. On top of that, your home will quickly become the gathering place for all your friends!

4. A Reading Nook

Flex rooms do not have to be a place to be loud, they can also be a place for peace and quiet. Whether you dedicate a whole room or just a section of a room, create that personal relaxing space where you can go to unwind with a good book.

5. An Extra Living Room or Bedroom

Flex rooms can also help ease the stress of having several people living under your roof. Millennials who are living with extra roommates can use the space as a bedroom. Multi-generational families, those who have grandparents or their adult children living with them, can use the space as an extra living room or lounge to escape to when the main living room is too crowded. No matter what stage of life, flex rooms allow you to be surrounded by the people you love, while giving you extra space.

WHY MOYOCK?

Moyock is located on the very edge of the Virginia and North Carolina state border on Route 168, and often serves as the first introduction to Currituck County and NC in general for visitors traveling to the Outer Banks. It is not just a pass through town, though, and its proximity to the state line leads many to consider Moyock as an extension of Hampton Roads, VA. Just 9 miles to the Edinburgh Shopping Center in Chesapeake, 25 miles to downtown Norfolk, and 35 miles to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, this small town in North Carolina is quickly emerging as a popular residential area for those looking for an easy commute to careers in the surrounding cities.

The charm of Moyock lies in its roots as a historic coastal farming community with a relaxed and country lifestyle. Currituck is home to some of the most beautiful scenery and sport hunting and fishing areas in the state. From its numerous waterways and proximity to Currituck sound and the Outer Banks (45 miles to Kitty Hawk), boating and water recreation are a favorite pastime in the area. Several access points include:

• A public boat launch with 30 parking spaces is located on 129 Creekside Drive in Moyock. This boat launch accesses the Northwest River, and eventually connects with the Currituck Sound.
• Poyner’s Road Park, which features picnic facilities, fishing, and a public North Carolina Wildlife boat ramp, can be found at 458 Poyner’s Road in Moyock. The park is free and open to the public.

Besides convenient location, incredible amenities, and abundant natural recreation, another draw to Moyock is Currituck County’s LOW property tax rate. Residents in Moyock pay less than half in real estate property taxes compared to Chesapeake, Suffolk, and Virginia Beach. Many are crossing the state line to benefit from significant tax savings!

Completing the package, Moyock is located in the coveted Currituck County School District.
