If you are a Suffolk resident you can’t miss theÃ‚Â Peanut Festival. The predecessor of todayÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s modern Suffolk Peanut Fest was celebrated in September 1978 in downtownÃ‚Â Suffolk. It was then called Ã¢â‚¬Å“Harvest Fest.” The event featured a parade, a hot-air balloon event, a carnival, dances, concerts and a festival queen. The festival was a downtown tradition until the event moved to the municipal airport in 1981. Now for four days each October, the Suffolk Peanut Festival draws some 200,000 people and has won the accolades of professional festival organizations and national magazines.
